Again: these remedies work!!

1. Aloe vera: my ABSOLUTE all-time favourite

Here are some of the aloe vera plants I grow at home—around 20-30 in total! I love making aloe vera gel and have perfected the process for a professional finish. The key is removing the aloin and carefully sieving the gel through a mesh. I use a natural preservative. Vitamin E and citric acid help to stabilise the gel and enhance its benefits. I use it every day and I can say it has literally changed the way my skin and hair look. This is amazing, powerful stuff.

Aloe vera. Not just for sunburns, oh, no-no. I have written extensively about it, check this page. Learn about its benefits here. This juicy succulent (we grow them by the dozens here and I use it DAILY) is such a WONDERFUL TREAT for your skin and hair. It basically takes care of pretty much everything.

Let’s look at some of the goodies inside that famous gel:

  • Malic acid: This little gem boosts your skin’s elasticity. Skin bounces back.
  • Collagen and elastin fibres: Aloe helps produce them, as you probably know they’re the ones in charge of skin firmness.
  • Antioxidants: Free radicals causing havoc? Aloe has got your back.
  • Offers hydration: Plump, moisturised skin equals fewer fine lines. Simple maths, really.
  • Vitamins C & E: These are very much skin-loving vitamins that help brighten your complexion and protect against sun damage.
  • Amino acids: Aloe’s amino acids help soften hardened skin cells, leaving your skin feeling and looking A LOT smoother.
  • Polysaccharides: These sugars help lock in moisture, keeping your skin hydrated and happy.
  • Enzymes: Aloe contains enzymes that help exfoliate dead skin cells, revealing a fresher, brighter layer underneath.
Easy to share card with the reasons why ALOE VERA WORKS for saggy skin. The components on the card make it possible, collagen and elastin production being the most potent.

With all these powerful ingredients, it’s no wonder aloe vera is a go-to for achieving that radiant skin. I’ve been using it daily for years now. My skin looks healthy, young, fresh, plump… everything you could ever wish for.

After you apply the aloe vera, you feel how the skin starts to tighten thanks to the malic acid and polysaccharides working together to boost elasticity and lock in moisture.

If you pushed me I’d say aloe vera and a good oil is all you need for great skin (if you don’t have skin issues that is).

How to use aloe for skin tightening

Here’s how to use it for tightening your skin:

  1. Get your hands on a fresh aloe leaf. Organic, if possible.
  2. Cut the base and rest the leaf in a bowl with water, so the aloin drains out.
  3. Slice it open and scoop out that clear, gooey gel.
  4. Apply directly to your face and neck. It might feel weird, but you’ll get used to it after a few times.
  5. Gently massage it in. Think loving strokes, that always helps to be gentle with oneself.
  6. Leave it on for around 15-20 minutes I’d say. Your skin will start to feel tight. This is normal. Just leave it, you’ll be rinsing it off with water later.
  7. Yep, now rinse off with cool water.

Do this daily, and you’ll be on your way to tighter skin. You will, trust me.

If you don’t have the plant at home, here’s the aloe vera gel I recommend (because the preservative they use is potassium sorbate, which is harmless, safe and not toxic).

Add rosehip oil for a boost!

Mix your aloe gel with a few drops of rosehip oil for an extra skin-firming punch. It’s just adding that extra that your skin will also love. Rosehip oil has wonderful properties for the skin and it’s a PERFECT oil for mature or ageing skin. Give it a try. If you don’t have rosehip oil at home, I recommend this hexane free, organic cold-pressed rosehip oil (at a fantastic price).

Remember, consistency is key. Stick with it, and you’ll will see results sooner than you would expect them.

2. Cucumber and green tea toner – as simple as it sounds.

Who wouldn’t love a toner made from cucumber juice and green tea. Cucumbers are nature’s astringents (meaning they help tighten skin) while green tea is the queen of anti-ageing power.

Forget those expensive toners filled with who-knows-what.

You’re about to whip up here a skin-tightening toner that your skin will adore.

Why the combo is a game-changer

Cucumbers and green tea might sound like a weird combination if you’re not used to natural ingredients for beauty. But, trust me, for your skin they’re PURE magic.

  • Cucumber: Nature’s astringent. It tightens pores very effectively.
  • Green tea: Packed with catechins, these antioxidants fight saggy skin like nobody’s business. Green tea is AMAZING for ageing skin.

Both ingredients give your skin a much-needed drink. Cucumber will reduce puffiness and inflammation, which is a GREAT bonus for the morning time in front of the mirror.

With 95% water, 4% carbohydrates, 1% protein, cucumber is a wonderful hydrator for your skin. A quality that stands out is its ability to tighten pores, which is great if you’re tackling saggy skin.
This saggy skin remedy is fantastic, so easy to make, very inexpensive and wonderful on your skin. Please give it a try.

Time to whip it up

  1. Grab a cucumber and some green tea. Organic, always.
  2. Grate half the cucumber. Seeds and all. No need to peel.
  3. Brew a strong cup of green tea. Let it cool.
  4. Mix the grated cucumber with a cup of the cooled green tea.
  5. Let it sit for 15-20 mins, for the green tea water to soak up the cucumber goodness.
  6. Strain the mixture through a fine sieve or cheesecloth.
  7. Pour into a clean, glass bottle. If you have a dark bottle even better (preserves the mix longer).
  8. It will keep for 4-6 days in the fridge.

How to use this magic potion

  1. Cleanse your face. With oils or a natural cleanser if possible.
  2. Dab the toner on with a cotton pad. No harsh rubbing, please!
  3. Pat gently into your skin. Feel that tingle? That’s tightening in action.
  4. Use morning and night. Consistency is queen here.

Pro tip

Keep your toner in the fridge. The extra coolness will give you an instant lift and tighten those pores even more. Plus, it feels absolutely wonderful on your skin, especially on a hot day!

This toner keeps for about a week in the fridge, but to keep on the safe side let’s say 4-6 days. You might use it up way before then.

Before you know it your skin will be begging for more of this cucumber-green tea toner.

3. A coffee ground body scrub that wakes up your skin

Coffee grounds are so versatile. They are natural exfoliators and caffeine is well known for tightening the skin. (Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor, meaning it makes your blood vessels smaller and tighter)

Why coffee is skin-tightening

  • Caffeine: On our skin it tightens and firms like nobody’s business.
  • Antioxidants: Coffee is LOADED with antioxidants. As you probably know they fight the free radicals that cause premature ageing.
  • Exfoliation: The grainy grounds are actually natural exfoliators that slough off dead skin cells (revealing tighter, brighter skin underneath).
  • Improved circulation: Coffee stimulates blood flow.
The grainy coffee grounds grounds are actually natural exfoliators that slough off dead skin cells (revealing tighter, brighter skin underneath)

DIY coffee scrub recipe (VERY easy to make)

  1. Collect those used coffee grounds (like the pic above).
  2. Mix 1/4 cup of grounds with 2 tablespoons of warm coconut oil. (Coconut oil is wonderful for your skin too by the way.) Now, I don’t have a microwave as I don’t like the thought of those waves on my food but you can warm up in trying a few seconds at a time (or bain marie, which is how I do it).
  3. Add a tablespoon of brown sugar for extra exfoliation goodness. Organic always better.
  4. Mix it all up until it looks like a gritty paste.

How to use

  1. Jump in the shower or stand over the sink (it can get a bit messy, but that’s half the fun in my view).
  2. Dampen your skin with warm water.
  3. Apply the scrub in gentle, circular motions all over your body. Pay extra attention to areas prone to cellulite or sagging.
  4. Leave it on for about 5 minutes. Let that caffeine work its magic.
  5. Rinse off thoroughly with warm water.
  6. Pat dry.

Use this scrub 1-2 times a week. More than that might be too harsh.

Pro tip

For an extra skin-tightening boost, add a few drops of peppermint essential oil to your scrub. I recommend this one. The cooling sensation will make your skin feel even tighter, plus it smells DIVINE.

Stick with it, and you’ll start seeing (and feeling) results before you know it. I really don’t understand why people buy commercial scrubs (with would contain preservatives).

Now, who’s ready for their next cup of coffee? Your skin, that’s who!

4. Avocado and olive oil mask – the two green goddesses of skin firming

Avocado and olive oil create a nourishing mask that can help improve skin hydration & elasticity, helping firm saggy skin.

When paired with olive oil, avocado becomes a POWERHOUSE for skin tightening. This mask is so nourishing, you’ll see.

When combined, these two ingredients create a nourishing mask that can help improve skin hydration, elasticity, and overall appearance. The healthy fats and antioxidants work together to support the skin’s structure and resilience, giving it a firmer and fresher look.

This duo is basically a skin-saver

  • Avocado: Packed with healthy fats and vitamins A, D, and E. Basically multivitamins for your face.
  • Olive oil: Rich in antioxidants and squalene (a FANTASTIC oil for mature skin), it mimics your skin’s natural oils. Very, very hydrating.
  • Collagen boost: Both ingredients help stimulate collagen production. Basically, plump skin.
  • Anti-inflammatory properties: Which gives you a more contoured face (anti-inflammatory properties reduce puffiness and water retention in facial tissues, resulting in a more defined and contoured appearance as the excess fluid diminishes…)
Not sure if you can see but I’m holding extra virgin cold pressed olive oil in my hand, ready for applying to my face (I added a couple of drops of frankincense essential oil which is FANTASTIC at reducing wrinkles and fine lines).

Whipping it up

  1. Mash up half a ripe avocado. The riper, the better.
  2. Mix in 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil. Always go for the good stuff, your skin deserves it. No need to buy speciality oils. The organic cold-pressed olive oil at your grocery store is what we’re looking for here. If you want my recommendation, this one is more than good enough for your skin.
  3. Add a squeeze of lemon juice (about 1 teaspoon). This helps brighten your skin and preserve the avocado.
  4. Stir until you have a smooth, creamy consistency.
Maybe you find it weird to put avocado on your face… Start with a tiny bit amount of this mix if so. Work your way from there. Even the tiniest amount will benefit your skin if you massage it into it for a while. Eventually, you get used to these natural mixes. Believe me, they’ll grow on you once you see the results.

How to use

  1. Cleanse your face with your favourite natural cleanser.
  2. Apply the mask generously all over your face and neck. Don’t forget the neck. We always tend to.
  3. Relax for 15-20 minutes. Perfect time to practice some deep breathing or catch up on that book you’ve been meaning to read. Don’t rush it, leave the mix time to penetrate your skin and work its wonders.
  4. Rinse off with lukewarm water, massaging gently as you go.
  5. Pat dry and marvel at your glowing, tighter skin.

Use this mask once or twice a week. Your skin will drink it up every single time, believe me.

Small avocados on tree
Avocados growing where I live. These ones are still very young as you can see. We’re organic so the goodness is all there!

Pro tip

For an extra cooling and tightening effect, pop your olive oil in the fridge for about 30 minutes before making the mask. The cool oil will feel AMAZING on your skin and give you an instant tightening sensation.

5. Rosemary and grapeseed oil serum – absolutely gorgeous for skin tightening

Rosemary and grapeseed are a wonderful combination for skin tightening. Together, they become a skin-firming dream team. Here’s why:

  • Rosemary: Packed with antioxidants and improves circulation.
  • Grapeseed oil: Light, easily absorbed, and rich in linoleic acid. It’s packed with multiple benefits for the skin, including moisturising, antioxidant protection, and potential acne-fighting properties, making it a versatile and highly effective skincare ingredient. It is a great oil for combination skin also. Here’s my recommended brand if you haven’t got it at home.
  • Collagen boost: Rosemary stimulates collagen production. Plump, bouncy skin.
  • Antioxidant powerhouse: Both ingredients fight free radicals really, really well.

Let’s make it

  1. In a small, dark glass bottle, pour 30ml of grapeseed oil. Always go for cold-pressed, organic if you can. Here’s my recommended one.
  2. Add 5 drops of rosemary essential oil. Make sure it’s pure, organic and from a trusted source. If not sure, I recommend this one.
  3. Gently roll the bottle between your palms to mix. No need for vigorous shaking, as essential oils are delicate and can be damaged by aggressive movement. (Gentle rolling ensures proper blending without compromising the oils’ beneficial properties). Just roll it gently for a minute or so.

How to use this skin-tightening duo

  1. Cleanse your face thoroughly. We want clean skin to soak up all this goodness.
  2. While your skin is still slightly damp, place 3-4 drops of the serum in your palm.
  3. Gently pat and press the serum into your skin.
  4. Pay extra attention to areas prone to sagging, like the jawline and neck. I rub serums around my upper chest too, many people forget about this area which tends to go wrinkly quite early.
  5. Use morning and night, after toning and before moisturising.

This serum is gentle enough for daily use. Go ahead and try it for 1-2 months and see results over time.

Pro tip

For an extra boost, try a little facial massage when applying the serum. Use upward strokes and gentle circular motions. It’ll help with absorption AND give you a mini face lift, always a win-win.

Remember, lovely, patience is key with natural remedies. Stick with this routine, and you’ll start noticing firmer, more radiant skin in a few weeks.

BONUS: Papaya enzyme treatment (nature’s facelift in a fruit)

Papaya is a MIRACLE worker for your skin. I also grow it where I live. Love the smoothies (with almond milk and cinnamon). Well, if you didn’t know, papaya is an enzyme-packed fruit, fantastic against sagging skin.

Papaya’s enzymes are wonderful for our skin.

How papaya works as skin-tightening

  • Papain: This enzyme is a natural exfoliant. It works very well at sloughing off dead skin cells
  • Vitamins A & C: For collagen production, the building blocks of firm skin.
  • Antioxidants: Papaya is LOADED with these free-radical fighters.
  • Alpha hydroxy acids: Gentle chemical exfoliants that reveal fresher, tighter skin underneath. I love these in fruits, better than buying the commercial products that are filled with other synthetic ingredients (and preservatives, no matter how gentle, still preservatives).

Making it

  1. Get your hands on a papaya, preferably one that’s not fully ripe. Younger, greener papayas contain higher levels of papain, the enzyme we’re after for skin benefits.
  2. Scoop out about 1/4 cup of papaya flesh. No need to be precise, just enough to cover your face with the mix.
  3. Mash it up until it’s nice and smooth. You can use a fork or a blender, but a fork is probably all you need.
  4. Add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice (about 1 teaspoon). This helps brighten the skin and keeps the papaya fresh. IF USING THE LEMON, BETTER TO APPLY THIS TREATMENT AT NIGHT, as lemon can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight.
  5. Mix in a tablespoon of agave syrup if you have it, for some extra hydration. I’m vegan so try to avoid honey. You can also use maple syrup. Either will add the extra hydration agent. No need to add them if you haven’t got them at home, it’s just a nice extra-hydration touch.

How to use

  1. Cleanse your face with your favourite natural cleanser.
  2. Apply the enzyme treatment mask generously all over your face and neck. Don’t forget the neck and decolletage.
  3. Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes.
  4. Rinse off with cool water, gently massaging as you go. You can probably start to feel the smoothness.
  5. Pat dry. You should already see how your skin is glowing and feels a little tighter.

Use this mask once a week.

When to get started?

Now!

You have all the information you need above.

There’s no need for you to wait til the next commercial product to tighten your skin becomes a trend. They’re not natural, even the natural ones have preservatives and, if you noticed, NOTHING above uses preservatives.

The only drawback is that you have to make them from scratch after using or after a few days.

But who cares? Your skin deserves it.

Mine definitely does.
