Hand Lens for Botany: Thrilled with this Cheap Jeweler’s Magnifying Glass Loupe we Found!
When we did our intro to herbal remedies at Neal’s Yard Remedies in London, Julia, our course tutor, told us that a hand lens for botany would be a lovely thing to have. And today, accidentally, we found one.
A Cheap Hand Lens for Botany that Will do the Job Nicely!
Thrilled thrilled thrilled with this jeweler’s magnifying glass we found today at Portobello Market in London for only £3 (a little over $4). Yes, this is a cheap jeweler’s loupe 30x and I can’t say how thrilled we are enough times!
Julia, our tutor at the intro course we did on herbal remedies at Neal’s Yard (here’s a link to the blog post we wrote on it and here’s a link to more information on the course) spoke about herbs and plants in a way I’ve never seen anyone else talk do before; with such love, devotion and gratitude I thought I would be very happy if I could learn to feel this way as time goes by. I’m definitely keen to develop a love relationship with plants for sure.
In fact, Julia also said she really wanted all of us, if anything, to take that away from the course a deep sense of gratitude for the herbs and plants because of the medicine they supply us with and I must say I strongly took her advice into my heart.
One of the things she suggested we would add to our ‘botanics kit’ was a loupe hand lens magnifier or pocket hand lens for botany so we could really look at details of the stems, petals, leaves, etc from a much closer perspective in order to REALLY appreciate the beauty and intricacies of the stunning visual patterns that would usually be hidden to the naked eye.
I Had Forgotten to Buy it!
I remember adding it to my ‘mental list’ of things to get before leaving London, and to buy the jeweler’s loupe online on Amazon was definitely on the list.
But I forgot. There’s been many different things we’ve had to get to bring back to Tenerife with us (books, products, etc) plus our regular shopping bits and pieces that buying the hand lens for botany totally slipped my mind.
And we ‘Accidentally’ Found it on Portobello Market
Until today, when we went to Portobello Market and accidentally ‘bumped’ into this lovely little triplet hand lens! What a beauty!
I can’t wait to start using it for botany, as planned. In the meantime I took the liberty of getting a little closer than usual to a chili pepper and a small piece of garlic.
If You Want to Buy a Jeweler’s Loupe
A found it on Amazon, not as cheap as we bought it for but still the price looked very good! See what you think.
If you need further info on botanic hand lenses here and here are guides that can help you although I wouldn’t go too crazy and get something simple that’ll do the job if you’re a beginner botanist like we are.
