Women, Money & Self Care: 20 Changes to Make

I write so you share. Thank you.

We’ve been struggling for too long.

We have more female breadwinners now than ever before but we’re still not making as much money.

We have less time than ever before, with families and careers and responsibilities to juggle.

Worse, we can’t even take care of ourselves anymore. We’re too busy taking care of everyone else.

Is that too much to say?

I don’t think so.

It’s time for this to change — we deserve it anyway.

The Changes We’re Making

I’m tired.

It’s time for these changes.

These are the changes we should be making.

  1. I will no longer pretend that I can get everything done and do a good job at it too.
  2. I will no longer pretend that working full time and running a household is actually possible to balance well.
  3. I will no longer accept that the busier I am, the more productive I am.
  4. I will no longer stay at the office late to look like I’m busy.
  5. I will take “me” (time for myself) seriously and make it a priority.
  6. I will strive to live with intention, follow through on my commitments, and get real results with projects important to me.
  7. I will begin to schedule my time so I can create space for myself and the things I love.
  8. I will prioritize spending time with the people I care about and let go of unhealthy people in my life.
  9. I will be choosy about the things that are important to me when it comes to money, so so I can invest my time and money where it matters most.
  10. I will make sure the things that are important to me when it comes to money are paid for, so they don’t become an obsession or burden.
  11. I will be honest about what I can and cannot afford and stop feeling guilty about it.
  12. I will focus on the things that are important to me in life, so I can create what matters to me and make a living doing it.
  13. I will put myself first, so that my family and my work life can be balanced—so that I can be at home for them when they are.
  14. I will be generous and selfless without putting others first.
  15. I will start looking at what makes me feel good about myself—soothing and healthy ways of spending time that are mine alone—and make them a priority in my life.
  16. I will celebrate myself, knowing that the things I am doing for me are making a difference in my life, and others too.
  17. I will make sure my family members know how important they are, so that they feel appreciated and wanted.
  18. I will stop pretending I can be all things to all people, so that I can meet the need of only those close to me.
  19. I will make sure that I am neither workaholic nor lazy, so I can have a real balance in my life.
  20. I will start living like the woman that I want to be today instead of waiting until tomorrow to start living this way.

I hope I am not alone in my desire to change things for the better.

It’s time for this generation of women—and men for that matter—to step up and create our own world.

Love,
Patri
