I’ve enjoyed using essential oils for a few years now. Honestly, I get hooked by the smell of both individual oils and the different blends all the time. From my DIY skincare to room sprays and diffusers, I find it easy to switch up my routine and scent the air with unique fragrances.

However, using a diffuser can sometimes be tedious. I own 2 cats, so I can’t diffuse at home that often (you shouldn’t diffuse essential oils around pets).

Also, some essential oils are too expensive for the diffuser, so I also have been looking for ways on how to enjoy my essential oils in a more effective way. Having said that, the diffuser is a great option but there’s more than one way you can enjoy your favorite oils!

Today, I’m going to share with you my tips and tricks to enjoying your essential oils in different ways.

Read on for some different fun ways to use your essential oils…

Introduction: What are essential oils?

I have many essential oils at home that I keep for different purposes. Those small bottles are packed with the most incredible scents that I use very often. Here’s an example of their power:

  • Geranium essential oil (entrancing and calming properties)
  • Tea tree essential oil (clearing, disinfecting and dematting )
  • Frankincense essential oil (soothing & uplifting )
  • Blue tansy (antibacterial , antiviral , antifungal and immune boosting)
  • Lavender essential oil ( naturally calming and pain relieving)
  • Lemon essential oil (clearing the air and enhancing moods)
  • Orange essential oil (gives that sun shining feeling throughout the day)

I have many more essential oils, all of them so unique and wonderful!

Just taking in their aroma (known as “aromatherapy”) can change the way you feel and improve your well-being in literally a fraction of a second.

Essential oils are liquid plant extracts that are highly concentrated, and are extracted from plants y a variety of methods, which can include distillation, expression, or solvent extraction such as cold-pressing or enfleurage. Citrus essential oils, for example, are extracted from peels of fruits.

There are many varieties of essential oils that can be used for a variety of purposes. While some essential oils to be more expensive than others, it all comes down to the active component that is found in each essential oil.

How do essential oils work?

Essential oils contain many chemical compounds. They may contain different types and amounts of ingredients, which have very specific functions. Some oils contain compounds that have repellant, pungent, and even therapeutic properties. Essential oils can be used to provide an array of health benefits ranging from soothing skin to boosting the immune system.

Creative Ways to Use Essential Oils

The sky is the limit when it comes to using essential oils. You can use them topically, inhale them (sometimes in an essential oil warmer or diffuser) or mix them with a carrier oil and apply to your skin.

Below are some of my favorite ways to enjoy my oils…

Different Ways to Enjoy Essential Oils

Essential oils can be enjoyed in many different ways. Whether you use them in the diffuser or simply take in the aroma by using a few drops on your wrists, there are plenty of ways to enjoy these natural fragrant substances.

1. Diffusing Your Essential Oils

The most popular way to enjoy essential oils is by using a diffuser. It’s the easiest way to enjoy their powerful benefits throughout the day. There are a few very different kinds of diffusers available, but they all work the same in essence.

Essential oils are diffused by putting water in a small container, adding some drops of your favorite essential oils, and then switching on your diffuser. As it’s lightly bubbling away, it will release a calming aroma that will fill up the room.

You can easily create your own relaxing fragrance by mixing a few different oils together and diffusing them at the same time.

2. Essential Oil Burners & Incense

In many eastern cultures, such as India, burning incense is a very common way of welcoming guests or for enjoying the smell for general air freshening purposes. There are many varieties of incense that are specifically made to burn with essential oils mixed in them.

I love using essential oil incense to relax and enjoy their soothing, calming effect. They are usually not as expensive as some essential oils, so you can easily buy a few different scents to enjoy your favorite ones even more.

3. Add To Your Favorite DIY Recipes

Essential oils can be used in many different DIY recipes for skincare, body care, and even DIY cleaning products! They are a great addition to any homemade blend that you are making from scratch.

4. Essential Oil Blending Tools

There are different tools that you can use to mix and combine your essential oils for mixed purposes. Among these tools are diffusers, roller balls, atomizers, bottles, etc. All of these tools/items can be used to help you create your own blends that will work for you most effectively.

I personally prefer using roller bottles as they are easy to use and very practical.

5. Improve Your Moods And Feelings With Essential Oils

Essential oils that contain the highest amounts of certain chemical compounds can affect your moods and feelings. For example, cedarwood essential oil contains high amounts of sesquiterpenes, which are effective in helping you relax and calm down your mind. Some people prefer to use it at nighttime as a way to unwind before they go to bed.

Some oils that are known to help with moods and feelings include: frankincense, lavender, neroli, ylang ylang, chamomile, rosemary, and grapefruit.

6. DIY Therapeutic Oils

This is another fun way to use your own essential oils in a very therapeutic way. You can mix in different ratios of oils to create your own blend that you tailor towards what you need.

Here are some of the oils that you can use to create your own therapeutic blend:

  • Thyme oil – anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and analgesic properties
  • Geranium oil – great for stimulating hair growth and skin repair
  • Lavender oil – used to treat acne and scars, relieve muscle aches, inflammation, headache and insomnia

7. Diffusing Without Water (Direct Application)

Some essential oils can be applied straight onto the skin without having water added to them. This is known as direct application. The essential oils I apply directly to the skin are lavender, tea tree, rose absolute, neroli, jasmin, frankincense for their different therapeutic effects as well as their intoxicating and wonderful scent. These are quite safe but you should ALWAYS consult a certified practitioner before applying neat on your skin.

Direct application is not recommended for children or pregnant women.

8. Herbal Salves/Butters/Tinctures

You can easily create herbal salves, butters, and tinctures with your favorite essential oils. They are very versatile and can be used for many different things, such as:

  • Massage Oil
  • Foot Creams/Ointments
  • Lip Balms – to soothe dry lips, chapped lips, and even cracked lips.
  • Face Masks
  • Bath Bombs – to help with relaxation, stress relief and cleansing the skin.
  • Room Spray – to add a nice aroma in your room.
  • Beauty Products – to supercharge your skincare routine.

And many other uses. It all depends on your imagination and creativity.

9. Enjoy Your Aromatherapy Essential Oil Diffuser Bracelet

One of my personal favorite ways to enjoy essential oils is with the use of an essential oil diffuser bracelet. Some people prefer to wear it as a necklace, but I personally think that wearing it on the wrist might be more comfortable. Either way, it helps to stay relaxed throughout the day.

10. Enjoy Your Aromatherapy Essential Oil Diffuser Necklace

Another great way to enjoy your essential oils is with the use of a diffuser necklace. You can enjoy the benefits of your favorite essential oils even while you are at work or out in public. Diffuser necklaces are a great way to enjoy the aroma of your favourite oils anytime, anywhere! They come in many different shapes and colors, but they all do the same thing: diffuse essential oils into the air. You benefit from their therapeutic effects on a daily basis.

##Methods for using in the home: What are the benefits in the home?

Hands down, diffusers are the best way to take in essential oils at home. They are portable and don’t take up much space, and they diffuse the scent across a whole room. They can also be used on the kids, so you don’t have to worry about them going through an oil blend if they happen to be around while you mix up some blends.

##Methods for using in the office: What are the benefits in an office setting?

Essential oils are the best way to breathe in their benefits while you’re at work. They feel more sumptuous than just talking and listening to music, but they can be both. At the office, you can diffuse different blends that can be uplifting and/or relaxing. You can either mix up your own blends or purchase one pre-made from a store, which you can also enjoy at work.

##Methods for using when traveling: What are the benefits while traveling?

Traveling is a great way to explore new places. You can ‘t deny that it is sometimes stressful too, especially when traveling by plane. Diffusing oils at home before you leave and then again while you’re on the plane with the aid of a necklace or bracelet can help you relax and enjoy your surroundings.

##Methods in the car: What are the benefits while driving?

While you’re driving, you want to focus on being in control of your vehicle, which is why using essential oils at this time isn’t recommended.

Conclusion

Overall, essential oils are very versatile and don’t just have to be used for skincare or aromatherapy. They can help improve your moods, relax you, and enhance your environment.
