When we study the fatty acid composition of vegetable, base or carrier oils we can really understand which are the dominant qualities of the oil. This is important because then we can choose them for different purposes. I make natural skincare and so I need to look at the fatty acid composition in order to decide which are the best carrier oils for my formulas depending on what the product is aimed for.
Both the pattern of the oil as well as the fatty acid composition give each oil unique properties. We need to take into account that variables like where the plant grows (region, country), the weather condition, the crops, the variety of the plant, etc etc all play an important role so the fatty acid composition will differ from batch to batch. This means the following fatty acid composition lists are an indicative guide only. Please take the list below as an indicative guide because of this.
Some oils list the unsaponifiable portion, which is the non-lipid compound responsible for things like the colour or smell of the oil together with antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, etc.
