The Ultimate (Oh-So-Simple!) Natural Morning Skincare Ritual
Ever feel like your skin is begging for a break?
Yes? I hear you. I ditched chemical-laden products and armed myself with NATURAL KNOWLEDGE many years ago.
So, yes, now I’m sharing my knowledge with you because it feels good.
Hello – I’m a certified organic skincare formulator, TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH NATURAL INGREDIENTS. I’ve seen firsthand how switching to all-natural skincare improves people’s skin. Full stop.
It’s not rocket science – but you do need to know where to start.
The skin holiday you’ve been waiting for
You might be wondering, “Alright, what’s the big deal with going all-natural anyway?” Let me spill the beans for you.
(FUN) FACT: Every commercial skincare product you buy contains ingredients that are more at home in a lab than on your skin.
Switching to a natural skincare routine isn’t just about being kind to your skin (though, yes, your skin will thank you for it). It’s about tapping into what Mother Nature has been perfecting for, oh, let me think… a few billion years?
These aren’t your average, run-of-the-mill ingredients we’re talking about. They’re nature’s power players, ready to hydrate, heal, and rejuvenate without a human-made lab in sight. You see, Mother Nature IS the lab!
So when I say “natural skincare routine,” I mean stepping away from store-bought formulas in favour of what’s authentic. We’re going back to basics but keeping it glamorous.
Think of it as your skin’s return to nature, with a little bit of luxury thrown in.
Because who says natural can’t be lavish?
The routine
Yes, I linked to affiliate products below at no extra cost to you. Hope you don’t mind.
1) Beautiful, gentle cleansing
CLEANSE with jojoba or sweet almond oil: Kick off your day by gently massaging your face with these oils. They’re not just cleaning your skin; they’re giving it a boost of hydration without stripping it dry. Oils are natural, and your skin adores them. And, yes, they cleanse (oil attracts oil, trapping it and removing it together with the dirt).
HOW? Pour a small amount of oil into your palm, then gently massage it over your dry face for about a minute. Use a warm, damp cloth to gently remove the oil, lifting away dirt and impurities without stripping your skin.
YOU CAN GET JOJOBA OIL HERE AND SWEET ALMOND OIL HERE.
Jojoba is almost like your skin’s natural oil, helping balance things out, while sweet almond oil is packed with vitamins to nourish and soften your skin.
2) Refreshing, soothing toning
TONE with chamomile or green tea: This step is like a calming breath for your face. Chamomile soothes and reduces irritation, making it perfect for sensitive or inflamed skin.
HOW?: Brew a strong cup of either chamomile or green tea and let it cool. Soak a cotton pad with the tea, then swipe it across your clean face. It’s refreshing and helps balance your skin’s pH.
YOU CAN GET CHAMOMILE TEA HERE AND GREEN TEA HERE.
Green tea is a powerhouse antioxidant, fighting off the day’s free radicals and giving your skin a toned, refreshed feel. Just brew tea as normal, let it cool down and use the tea water as a toner.
3) Time for a natural serum!
For SERUM, aloe vera gel, acting as your skin’s drink of water. Aloe vera is fantastic for hydration but goes beyond that with its healing and anti-inflammatory properties. I have been using it every day (yes, I make the gel from my own plants, stop it, now I’m showing off) and my skin looks amazing. Don’t take my word, that’s what others say.
HOW? Take a pea-sized amount of aloe vera gel and gently pat it onto your face and neck. Let your skin drink it all the way in before moving on to the next step. It’s lightweight, it won’t take long.
NOT ALL ALOE VERA GELS ARE MADE EQUAL. HERE’S THE ALOE VERA GEL I RECOMMEND.
Aloe vera is perfect for all skin types, especially if you’re looking to soothe and hydrate without the over-complication (in terms of ingredients) of traditional serums.
4) Eye cream (optional)
EYE CREAM with cucumber & shea butter: Tired eyes? This combo is your new best friend. Cucumber is all about de-puffing and bringing that fresh, awake look-back. Shea butter comes in with its very rich, very moisturising properties, targeting those fine lines and dry areas. Together, they’re like a revitalising nap for your eyes.
HOW? Mash a small piece of cucumber and mix it with a bit of shea butter to create a paste. Gently apply this mixture around your eyes, being careful not to tug at the delicate skin. Leave it on for about 10-15 minutes, then rinse off with cool water.
YOU CAN GET THE SHEA BUTTER I RECOMMEND HERE.
5) Moisturise with oils
MOISTURISE with a blend of carrier & essential oils: Create your personalised potion by mixing carrier oils (like the ones you cleansed with) with a drop or two of your favourite essential oils.
This step locks in all the goodness from the previous steps and adds an extra layer of gorgeous nourishment.
HOW? Mix your chosen carrier oil and essential oils (see my mixes below) in a clean bottle. After cleansing and toning, apply a few drops of the oil blend to your fingertips and gently massage onto your face and neck. It’s deeply nourishing and leaves your skin g-l-o-w-i-n-g.
DRY SKIN? This mix is effective:
- Carrier Oil: 30ml Avocado or Olive Oil – For deep nourishment.
- Essential Oil: 2 drops Sandalwood or Geranium – Hydrates, balances and revitalises.
OILY SKIN? This mix is effective:
- Carrier Oil: 30ml Grapeseed or Jojoba Oil – Light and regulates oil production.
- Essential Oil: 2 drops Tea Tree or Lavender – Controls oil and calms the skin.
COMBINATION SKIN? This mix is effective:
- Carrier Oil: 30ml Jojoba or Sweet Almond Oil – Balances both dry and oily patches.
- Essential Oil: 2 drops Frankincense or Neroli – Promotes healthy, balanced skin.
SENSITIVE SKIN? This mix is effective:
- Carrier Oil: 30ml Apricot Kernel or Sweet Almond Oil – Gentle on the skin.
- Essential Oil: 1 drop Chamomile or Rose – Reduces irritation and soothes.
MATURE SKIN? This mix is effective:
- Carrier Oil: 30ml Rosehip or Argan Oil – For skin regeneration and elasticity.
- Essential Oil: 2 drops Rose or Myrrh – Reduces signs of ageing.
6) Sunscreen time
SUNSCREEN – Go Natural with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These minerals will sit on top of your skin, reflecting UV rays away. Unlike chemical sunscreens, they’re less likely to irritate and are better for sensitive skin and the environment.
HOW? Apply your natural sunscreen generously over all exposed areas of skin, at least 15 minutes before heading outside. Remember to reapply every two hours, or more frequently if swimming or sweating. This step is crucial for protecting your skin against harmful UV rays.
HERE’S THE SUNSCREEN I RECOMMEND.(Switching might be an adjustment, but trust me, typical commercial sunscreens are a cocktail of harsh chemicals in comparison.)
Don’t overthink it, make the leap
So, there you have it.
A peek into my natural skincare obsession and why I’m know this is the best path.
Switching to natural skincare isn’t just good for you; it’s a high-five to our beautiful planet. Imagine starting your day not with manmade chemicals, but with stuff so good, nature’s practically applauding.
Switching to all-natural might seem like a big step, but treat it as a fun test. No need to rush—start small. After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Pick one or two steps from the routine. See how they fit into your life. Remember, the goal isn’t perfection; it’s progress.
And for those moments of doubt? I’m here. Not just as a certified organic skincare formulator but as someone who genuinely cares about making skincare that’s not only effective but kind to mummy earth.
I’ve witnessed firsthand the glowing results on my own skin and those of my clients.
I’m all ears
I’d love to hear from you. Your experiences, your struggles, your victories in transitioning to natural skincare.
