Swimming in Bajamar: Natural Pools we Often Visit

I write so you share. Thank you.

We’ve fallen in love with a particular area of Tenerife: Bajamar. I’m linking to Tripadvisor here so you can have a look at this beautiful area as well as what other people say.

We ‘bumped’ into Bajamar almost by mistake. Having been born in Tenerife but leaving when I was young (21) meant that there are many areas in this island I haven’t either seen or explored yet. And Bajamar is one of them. I’m linking to another site here with a couple of paragraphs on the natural pools as well as a lovely pic.

Bajamar has 2 big natural pools, a smaller pool for children, a small and very sweet beach and lots or rock-pools which I saw during the summer (not in the winter months).

The reason we ‘found’ Bajamar is because we were looking for new areas to explore but also we wanted to ‘research’ suitable places within the island where we could swim (not so much for leisure, but exercise – we didn’t want waves!). This was back in 2016 and, almost like a miracle, we found this beautiful, beautiful place. I was very excited because even though I’d heard of it I had never been there (or I maybe visited when I was particularly young and can’t remember?). Not sure, either way, we embraced the place and love to visit as often as we can (it’s about 1 hour drive from where we live).

For those who are interested in the more ‘technical’ aspects, here’s what I got from Wikipedia (links to the Spanish one):

“It is located at the foot of the westernmost foothills of the Anaga massif, a route through the urban area of La Laguna. It has an average altitude of 48 masl, reaching its maximum capacity in the Isogue Peak, with 601 masl.

Bajamar occupies an area of 2.08 km² that encompasses the urban nucleus and a small rural and natural area, partially included in the protected space of the Anaga Rural Park. It is adjacent to Punta del Hidalgo, in the El Paso del Guanche area, with Tegueste in the peaks, and with Tejina in the area of El Riego.”

Above, Lynn and I leaving the area after a wonderful day of leisure (we didn’t exercise-swim on this particular day).

Here’s a little more info on Bajamar:

“Bajamar has the Centro Ciudadano de Bajamar, the El Tamboril Children’s Center, a church, the hermitage of San Juan, a petrol station, a sports center, several playgrounds, a public square, several banks, a post office, a chemist, a post of the Red Cross, plus bars, restaurants and other small shops. In addition, it has the Basketball School CBV Costa Lagunera, the Nautical Club of Bajamar and the apartment complex Osa Mayor and the Tejaditos.” (Translation from Spanish Wikipedia)

There’s an area next to the pools with smaller rock-pools. Beautiful.

Above a better view of one of the natural pools.

Lynn passed me this photo via Whatsapp. I just wanted you to see as many pics as possible, as I know from experience that scrolling and looking at pics when you’re interested in a particular topic, story or area feels very satisfactory : )

Below some pics from another visit, weather was not great. Overcast and grey, but still totally stunning. We love the way the waves break against the man-made wall. Sometimes they’re very high, which creates a spectacular view.

Below a good view at the small, sweet beach.

The beach from another angle.

The pool was a bit rough on this day, but we did exercise quite a lot.

A lovely ‘book-station’!

Happiness!!

I hope you visit Bajamar if you ever come to Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, Spain.
