1. Roasted Lemon Peel Powder Recipe

Via chocolateandzucchini.com

Clotilde, from Chocolate and Zucchini, goes a long way explaining this fabulous recipe. Making the most of what you have in the kitchen top or cupboards is really what it’s all about (the way my Grandma taught me!). Never throw things away if you can help it!

Here’s how Clotilde beautifully puts it:

So many food scraps can be put to good use with just a little time and flair…

Indeed. Well done Clotilde for such a fabulous tip!

INGREDIENTS

  • Organic lemons

PREPARATION

  • Peel off the peel off the lemons in thin ribbons, making sure to get only the top colored layer of peel, and none of the bitter white pith.
  • Arrange the ribbons of peel, pith side up, on a cookie sheet or in a baking dish in a single layer. Reserve somewhere dry and at room temperature for about 2 days, until the peels are completely dry; they will gradually curl up as they do.
  • On an occasion when you’re using your oven for another purpose, place the peels in the oven during the first 5 to 10 minutes of preheating so they will roast in the moderate heat. Keep a close eye on them so you can retrieve them when the edges are turning golden brown.
  • Let cool completely, then grind finely with a mortar and pestle (or in a mini food chopper)

2. How to Dry and Use Lemon Peel

Via Brown Thumb Mama

Another great way to prepare lemon peel.

Pam, from Browm Thumb Mama, delights us with this method. Having found that small jars of dried, lemon peel would set you back $10, she sets on the quest of showing you how simple it is to make your own.

INGREDIENTS

  • Organic lemons

PREPARATION

  • Peel your lemons avoiding the white pith. Place the peels in the dehydrator.
  • Dry them for 10-12 hours at 95 degrees. You’ll know they’re completely dry when they snap and don’t bend.
  • Crush the peels and buzz them in your coffee grinder until you get a fine powder.
  • Store the lemon peel powder in the fridge—it will keep for a year.

Need protection from cold and the flu in the winter period? Then look no further. Bren from brendid.com shows you how.

Bren says:

I stopped using commercial disinfecting cleaners in my home when I learned that they can contain hazardous chemicals and indoor air pollutants.

I know how she feels. I too feel uncomfortable when using them, something just doesn’t seem right. We must listen to our inner-voices and act accordingly. Bren most definitely did, good for you!

INGREDIENTS

  • Unflavored Vodka
  • 4 to 6 fresh lemons

PREPARATION

  • 1. Wash and peel the lemons, place rinds in a glass jar. Cover the rinds with vodka and allow to steep in a cool dark place for 3-6 weeks.
  • 2. The cleaner is ready when it becomes a deep yellow color. Remove the lemon rinds and pour into a spray bottle.
  • 3. Pour the lemon cleaner into a spray bottle and spray directly on areas you want to disinfect . When using, allow the disinfectant at least 10 seconds of dwell time to kill germs. (Dwell time is the amount of time a cleaner must stay wet on a surface to be effective).
  • 4. Wipe the surface dry (if desired) there is no need to rinse.

5. Lemon Peel for Joint Pain

Via Step To Health

This article explains why lemon peel is particularly good for joint pain.

The lemon peel contains important nutrients like lemon oil, citronella, and phellandrene, in addition to vitamin C, citric acid, malic acid, formic acid, hesperidin and pectins, and more […] In fact, the essential oils found in lemon peel have been shown to reduce joint pain, by relaxing the blood vessels and producing an anti-inflammatory effect that significantly reduces painful sensations.

Learn how to make the below:

INGREDIENTS

  • Extra virgin olive oil.
  • 2 large organic lemons.
  • Eucalyptus leaves.
  • A small jar with lid.
  • Clean gauze.

PREPARATION

  • Place the lemon peels in a jar and add enough olive oil to cover them completely. Add the eucalyptus leaves. Close the jar tightly and let this mixture sit for two weeks.
  • After two weeks have passed, add a little of this remedy to some gauze and place it over the painful area. Ideally you should apply this treatment at night, so the ointment can soak into the skin while you sleep.

6. Lemon Peel to Get Rid of Inflammation and Chronic Pain

Via Healthy Food House

Healthy Food House insists that you use organic lemons. In their article they reveal two effective ways to getting rid of inflammation and chronic pain. I HAVE NOT TRIED THIS PERSONALLY, but thought it was interesting enough to include in this article. If you decide to try this and it is helpful, please do leave a comment below!

FIRST METHOD

  • Make sure you use organic lemons. Then, put the peel of two whole lemons in a jar, and fill it with olive oil. Close the jar and let the mixture sit for two weeks. After two weeks, your beneficial oil is ready. You should rub it onto the affected area, wrap with gauze and leave it to act overnight.

SECOND METHOD

  • Grate the lemon peel, but note that you only need to get the yellow layer and none of the white. Rub the peel directly onto the affected body part and wrap with a bandage. Keep it thus for up to two hours.

6. DIY Lemon Peel Face Scrub

Via makeupandbeauty.com

makeupandbeauty.com is responsible for this simple recipe. Claiming that it hardly takes 5 minutes to make, I think it is a must to give this a try! There’s nothing like a good scrub, and there’s nothing like scrubbing when lemons are involved – they get things squeaky clean! So why not try on skin?

I remember using orange peel powders in face packs and they really worked well for me… This works wonderfully well for me. I am now obsessed with it.

I’m liking the sound of this. So here we go:

INGREDIENTS

  • Face cream, lemon peel powder and some essential oil (optional) and a small tub/pot/jar to store.

PREPARATION

  • 1. Pick a face cream that you use for massaging on your face. If you do not have a face massage cream, you can conveniently use Pond’s Cold Cream or any other moisturizing cream.
  • 2. Take out a small scoop of the cream and empty it in the small jar.
  • 3. Take out a small spoon of dried lemon peel powder and pour it in the jar.
  • 4. Mix the two together.
  • 5. The scrub is ready! If you find it to be a little thick, you can add a few drops of essential oil to the mixture.

Final Thoughts

I hope you’ve enjoyed the selection – please add more in the comments!
