Olive Oil & Frankincense: A Potent Anti-Aging Combo Mix

I write so you share. Thank you.

Frankincense and Olive Oil: Try this Powerful Anti Aging Combo for 2-3 Months to See Results!

I’m 55 years old and my skin looks radiant. I only use natural products, olive oil and frankincense oil is one of my favourite mixes for an anti-aging powerful combo.

These 2 ingredients are THE PERFECT COMBO for any mature skin type except sensitive or oily. Great anti-aging products DON’T HAVE TO BE EXPENSIVE. Sometimes the simplest products give the best results, look at my skin, it is a perfect example.

I recommend this cold-pressed, organic extra virgin olive oil:

These 2 incredible anti-aging ingredients somehow seem to have been made for each other. This was actually a discovery I made by accident. If you’ve looked around the blog you would have seen I absolutely love frankincense essential oil for fine lines and wrinkles (check my post here). And, also, you would have seen I truly adore carrier oils (vegetable or base oils). Just look at this post, this post, this post, this post and this post amongst others to see what I mean!

This Potent Combo Mix Will Last you AGES!

That’s right. Olive oil lasts quite a long time without going rancid because it is high in oleic acid. Just make sure to store it in a dark and cool place. I usually store my oils in the fridge so I can extend their shelf lives for quite a prolonged period of time.

Frankincense essential oil will last you for a long time as well. You can create the mix in a dropper bottle like these ones** and keep in your bathroom cabinet. You can use as much or as little product as you like, you’ll have to learn what your skin loves and needs over time.

I’ve Done the Research for You

I’m always experimenting, investigating and enjoying the process of using natural ingredients as part of my skincare routines. As time goes by I seem to tend to go for simpler, more natural ingredients. I make my own moisturizers (and I mean I make them the ‘complicated’ way – formulating like a pro that is : ) ) as well as other skincare products, but I’m moving more and more towards experimenting with just the raw materials.

Being Spanish olive oil is second skin to me. We use olive oil in cooking and not so much in skincare but lately I’m really enjoying the skincare benefits it offers.

I’m always adding frankincense essential oil to many of my carrier (vegetable) oils. I somehow had never tried olive oil since I tend to go for the more ‘high-end’, expensive ones like sea buckthorn, pomegranate seed, rosehip and the like.

Frankincense and olive oil are wonderful when combined together. Believe me, I am testing mixtures all the time, and I just know when ‘something magical happens.

The citrusy fragrance from the frankincense essential oil somehow came to life and blended in with such perfection with the sweetness of the olives… The mix simply had healing power, I could feel it. When rubbing the mix into my hands, the natural perfume that came out of the 2 ingredients being combined together just invaded my nostrils first and then my soul.

I kept rubbing the mix into my hands and then applied onto my face. The magic simply kept happening. It felt just perfect on top of my skin. The scent was just intoxicating and made the experience a wonderful one. I just could tell that the 2 together created a synergy that would work wonders on my skin.

This mix is SO GOOD I can’t wait to put it on at night which is my preferred time to apply (as my last step).

Replace one of your expensive facial oils for this effective 2-ingredient solution for just 3 months and watch what happens to your skin.

Anti-Aging Natural Solution

I have discovered the benefits of combining frankincense and olive oil for my skin.

Olive Oil and Frankincense

Olive oil and frankincense are two ingredients that have been used for centuries in skincare. Here’s what you need to know about them:

Olive oil:

Olive oil is a natural oil that is rich in antioxidants and healthy fats. It has been used for centuries as a moisturizer for the skin. When applied topically, olive oil can help to soothe and nourish the skin, while also protecting it from damage caused by free radicals.

Some benefits of using olive oil for skincare include:

  • Moisturizing: Olive oil is an excellent natural moisturizer that can help to hydrate the skin and prevent dryness.
  • Anti-aging: The antioxidants in olive oil can help to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals, which can lead to premature aging.
  • Anti-inflammatory: Olive oil has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to reduce redness and inflammation in the skin.

Frankincense:

Frankincense is a resin that is obtained from the Boswellia tree. It has been used for thousands of years in traditional medicine and skincare. When used topically, frankincense can help to soothe and heal the skin, while also promoting relaxation and reducing stress.

Some benefits of using frankincense for skincare include:

  • Anti-aging: Frankincense has been shown to stimulate the production of collagen, which can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Anti-inflammatory: Frankincense has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to reduce redness and inflammation in the skin.
  • Relaxation: Frankincense has a calming effect on the mind and body, which can help to reduce stress and promote relaxation.

Overall, both olive oil and frankincense can be beneficial for the skin. However, it’s important to note that everyone’s skin is different, and what works for one person may not work for another. If you’re considering using olive oil or frankincense for skincare, it’s a good idea to start with a small patch test to see how your skin reacts.

Mixing frankincense with olive oil:

You can mix frankincense with olive oil to create a nourishing, hydrating, anti-aging facial oil. This combination can be beneficial for the skin, as both frankincense and olive oil have moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties.

To make an anti-aging frankincense and olive oil facial oil, you can follow these steps:

  1. Start by mixing 1-2 drops of frankincense essential oil with 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
  2. Stir the mixture well to combine the ingredients.
  3. You can use the facial oil as a moisturizer by gently massaging it into your face and neck in circular motions.
  4. If you have sensitive skin, it’s a good idea to do a patch test before using the facial oil on your face.
  5. Store the facial oil in a dark glass bottle to protect it from light and heat, which can cause the oils to break down.

Remember that essential oils like frankincense are highly concentrated and should always be diluted before use on the skin. Additionally, it’s important to choose high-quality essential oils and carrier oils to ensure that you’re getting the best possible results.

WHO SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM THIS MIX?

If you have sensitive skin or oily skin don’t use this mix (mature skin tends to be on the drier side).

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

When combined, frankincense and olive oil can offer several benefits for the skin:

  1. Moisturizing: Olive oil is a natural emollient that can help to hydrate the skin and prevent dryness. When combined with frankincense, which has moisturizing properties, the mixture can help to nourish and hydrate the skin.
  2. Anti-aging: Both frankincense and olive oil have anti-aging properties that can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Frankincense can stimulate the production of collagen, which helps to keep the skin firm and elastic. Olive oil, on the other hand, contains antioxidants that can help to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals.
  3. Anti-inflammatory: Frankincense has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to reduce redness and inflammation in the skin. When combined with olive oil, which also has anti-inflammatory properties, the mixture can help to calm and soothe irritated skin.
  4. Antioxidant: Olive oil is a rich source of antioxidants that can help to protect the skin from damage caused by environmental stressors, such as pollution and UV radiation. When combined with frankincense, which also has antioxidant properties, the mixture can help to keep the skin looking youthful and healthy.
  5. Relaxation: Frankincense has a calming effect on the mind and body, which can help to reduce stress and promote relaxation. When used in skincare, frankincense can help to create a relaxing and rejuvenating experience for the skin.

Overall, combining frankincense and olive oil can provide a range of benefits for the skin, including hydration, anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and relaxation properties. However, it’s important to note that everyone’s skin is different, and what works for one person may not work for another. It’s always a good idea to do a patch test before using any new skincare product to see how your skin reacts.

Oh, and as an extra benefit, try ditching one of your expensive facial oils or moisturizers while you give this potent 2-ingredient combo a try…

Properties of Olive Oil and Frankincense Essential Oil

Let’s have a look at both ingredients:

Olive Oil

Olive oil is high in oleic fatty acid (75 – 80% – more on this below) which protects and nourishes our skin. It also has anti-inflammatory properties. This oil is good at preventing moisture loss so it is particularly suitable for dry skin (which is something that happens over time to our skin as you probably have noticed).

Oleic acid is an Omega-9 unsaturated fatty acid. It is naturally found on our skin; in fact, 30% of our skin and sebum are made up of oleic acid. Oleic acid doesn’t get absorbed that quickly by the skin which means it provides a protective layer and that’s how it helps prevent the loss of moisture. It also adds suppleness to the skin and is good at preventing infections caused by fungi or virus.

Why is it good for mature skin then? In a nutshell:

  • Prevents water loss
  • Has antioxidant properties
  • Is rich in vitamins A, D, K and E and squalane

I love olive oil and I always think I need to integrate it more into my skincare routine(s). This new mix gives me the perfect excuse to do so, believe me.

Do you need to buy an expensive olive oil for the mix to be a great product for your skin? NO!!

A good, extra virgin olive oil that has been cold pressed will do the trick very nicely.

Organic olive oil

Time to look at frankincense essential oil.

Frankincense Essential Oil

Frankincense is literally gold for your skin. This is the essential oil to use if you have mature skin and are looking for an anti-aging essential oil (there are others, but this one is queen!).

Frankincense essential oil skincare benefits include balancing sebum (oil) production, blemish clearing, skin-tightening and skin-brightening, improving tone and elasticity, having tissue remodelling properties and also good for hyperpigmentation. Also with anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiseptic qualities and properties (heals wounds).

  • cytophylatic oil – which means it helps to eliminate scarsmarks after boilsacne pox and sun spots, helping the process of skin cell regeneration as well as combating the signs of aging with its rejuvenating effect which works particularly well on mature skin minimizing fine lines & wrinkles
  • Tonifying – this is one of the most important oils when it comes to improving your skin tone
  • Reduces scars (scar tissue) and blemishes – invigorates your skin complexion
  • Repairs skin damage – and protects it because of its skin-healing action

What else do you want? This oil will do wonders for your skin!

I recommend a sustainable frankincense essential oil but I understand the price point can be a little high. I’ll leave you with 2 options and you decide what to do. I buy mine from Naturally Thinking in the UK.

Here’s Plant Therapy’s Frankincense (Boswellia serrata) certified organic Essential Oil:

Plant Therapy Organic Frankincense Serrata Essential Oil 100% Pure, USDA Certified Organic, Undiluted, Natural Aromatherapy, Therapeutic Grade 30 mL (1 oz)

Give this mix some time to work on your skin. As our skin ages we need at least 60 days minimum to start seeing differences. Please let me know how you get on with this mix and what it’s done for your skin. Remember to not use if you have sensitive or oily skin. I’ll be creating many more product mixes for different skin types on OhMightyHealth so stay tuned : )

  1. If this was to be done in a batch to place in a small bottle or dropper, what would the ratios be for each? Seems more time consuming putting on the palm of the hand especially if short on time. Thanks for your time!

    1. Hi Sylvia, great question! Yes, it is a very good idea to make a bigger batch and place it in a small bottle or dropper. Measure 1 drop of Frankincense oil per 1 tablespoon of olive oil. It is good to stay at a 0.04% ratio of essential oil to carrier oil when the product is for facial use. Hope this has helped!
